An Optometrist is a healthcare professional who examines eyes, diagnoses vision problems, prescribes corrective lenses, and helps detect eye diseases and conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess vision and eye health.
  • Diagnose refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia.
  • Prescribe and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
  • Detect and monitor eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy.
  • Educate patients on eye care, vision correction options, and preventive measures.
  • Refer patients to ophthalmologists or other specialists when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and treatment plans.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and interpret test results.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree or equivalent qualification recognized in the country of practice.
  • Valid professional license or registration.
  • Knowledge of ocular diseases, vision therapy, and optical products.
  • Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
