The Role

We are seeking an experienced API Manager to lead API strategy, governance, lifecycle management, and integration initiatives across enterprise platforms. The ideal candidate will oversee API architecture, developer experience, security standards, API performance, and cross-functional delivery while ensuring APIs are scalable, reliable, secure, and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement API strategies, governance frameworks, integration standards, and API lifecycle management practices aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead the design, development, deployment, monitoring, and optimization of enterprise APIs, microservices integrations, and digital connectivity solutions.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering, Cloud Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, Cybersecurity, Product Management, DevOps, Data Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Executive Leadership to deliver scalable API solutions.
  • Define API standards, documentation requirements, versioning strategies, security guidelines, authentication mechanisms, and governance processes.
  • Manage API platforms, API gateways, developer portals, integration frameworks, and enterprise API ecosystems.
  • Oversee API architecture reviews, technical design assessments, performance optimization, reliability improvements, and continuous enhancement initiatives.
  • Establish API monitoring, analytics, service-level agreements (SLAs), availability standards, and operational performance management processes.
  • Manage API security practices including OAuth, OpenID Connect, API keys, rate limiting, encryption, identity management, access controls, and threat prevention.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including API availability, response times, adoption rates, developer engagement, integration success rates, security incidents, service reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with UAE cybersecurity regulations, data protection requirements, API security standards, organizational governance frameworks, and industry best practices.
  • Manage relationships with technology vendors, cloud providers, integration partners, external developers, and internal application teams.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives through API management platforms, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered API analytics, automation tools, cloud-native architectures, event-driven systems, and integration-as-a-service solutions.
  • Utilize API management platforms such as Apigee, MuleSoft, Azure API Management, AWS API Gateway, Kong, Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, DevOps tools, monitoring solutions, SQL databases, and analytics platforms to manage API performance and delivery.
  • Prepare API performance reports, governance dashboards, architecture documentation, security assessments, integration roadmaps, executive presentations, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop API engineers, integration specialists, architects, DevOps professionals, and cross-functional technical teams while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, security, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Cloud Computing, or a related field.
  • Master's degree or professional certifications such as API Management certifications, Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure/GCP), TOGAF, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), ITIL, or equivalent are highly advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in API management, software engineering, integration architecture, enterprise architecture, cloud platforms, or related technology roles.
  • At least 2 years of experience managing API platforms, integration teams, software delivery programs, or enterprise digital transformation initiatives preferred.
  • Strong understanding of API architecture, RESTful services, GraphQL, microservices, event-driven architecture, API security, integration patterns, lifecycle management, and cloud technologies.
  • Experience with API management platforms, API gateways, OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman, Kubernetes, DevOps pipelines, cloud services, monitoring tools, databases, and enterprise integration platforms.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered API optimization, automated API testing, API analytics, cloud-native architectures, serverless technologies, and digital platform ecosystems is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, technical, analytical, communication, stakeholder management, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple API initiatives while balancing security, scalability, performance, developer experience, business priorities, timelines, and technical requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote environment with distributed engineering teams, virtual collaboration platforms, and global stakeholders.
